From the indie developer of Callys Caves comes the much-anticipated sequel, Callys Caves 2. This new platform-adventure title sees the brave little girl Cally on a new adventure to save her parents who have been kidnapped again by the wicked Dr. Herbert.
To reach the center of Herbert’s lair, Cally has to brave through more than 100 levels in the scary caves. Each level is a tricky challenge with enemies lurking in the darkness. From bats and mana bears to bandits and fireball players, different enemies will reveal themselves as you advance in the side-scrolling journey and try to hunt you down based on their own predating habits.
In face of danger, you are far from helpless. You will gather 16 different weapons – initially a pistol, then a shotgun and then an assault rifle and more – during the adventure. So you can fire at enemies in a safe distance and by using them you also upgrade them to be more powerful. To deal with varying situations, you are able to switch between all weapons you have unlocked at will.
In addition to guns, you also have a sword at hands to protect yourself from danger right under the nose. Weak as it sounds, the sword is very useful. In some levels you cannot see the bat hung upside down on the top until it is too late and it comes at you; and you may also accidentally rush yourself in front of a predator every now and then. Under these circumstances, you can swing the sword to defend yourself for guns become useless.
Compared to enemies, the tricky platforms and the cave per se are more fatal. There are the standard environmental hazards like spike pits, water causes and lavas. More dangerous are the large gaps between platforms, high and low, long and short. You have to learn how to jump to survive. That requires quick reflex and poised double/triple jump.
Battle aside, another important task in Callys Caves 2 as in many platformers is collection. You will be able to collect coins, gems, hearts and the like along the way. Since your little adventurer and her weapons are all leveled up automatically, you do not spend coins on that. What cost coins are the several boosters including triple jump, health refill, coin multipliers, sword upgrades and so on. And these items can be bought any time in the shop.
Callys Caves 2 is a little gem among the many platformers. It has simple nice pixel graphics and the rock music that suits to the jumping and firing greatly deepens the immersion. It takes time for you to master the jump control and the game is hard on the whole. But that is the very reason you will die, retry and come back for more.
Callys Caves 2 is available for download, completely for free. And if you want to show some support and also get some edges with the poison bullets while getting rid of the ads, it just costs $0.99.[iTune Link]
