Crystal Arena is an LoL-inspired real-time strategy game mixed with elements from MOBA genre. Set in a world based off Nordic myths, the game casts you into the role of a hero arriving at Asgard to help Odin defeat the fallen god Loki and his evil army.
In Crystal Arena you manage a small base where a few buildings are already established and needs further upgrading to empower your army. You can harvest resources from the hall used to level up all structures and amassing army, summon heroes in Temple and soldiers in Barracks, expand the power of army by research in the Academy, and make friends and borrow their heroes in Tavern. There are also several towers around your central Crystal Hall – if it is destroyed during invasion you lose resources and the battle. The base building is more like a tucked-in feature for buildings are limited, pre-located and only serving combat.
Battles in Crystal Arena include both quest-driven solo campaigns and revengeful PvP matchups. Battle is fought in real time and it takes a form between tower offense like that in Clash of Clans and role-playing combat. To start a battle, you select a hero and as many soldiers as your capability allows, deploy your units in a green zone opposing that of enemies by simply tapping, and hit the attack button. Your soldiers will automatically move and attack enemies within reach; meanwhile, your hero does the same except that you can decide when and which skills are used. It is a good attempt to give players some control in battle but it is explored to the extent it should be to make the hero control palpable and enjoyable.
Crystal Arena is made by Chengdu-based studio Revobeing. It was successfully funded via Kickstarter and is now completed and released on the App Store. [DOWNLOAD]
