Prime World: Defenders is a blend of tower defense and CCG featured with card-based strategic battle across numerous levels of challenge. In a chaotic land torn apart by the discovery of the powerful resource Prime, a unique team makes expedition over the realm extracting the important resources while waging wars against the most dangerous monsters in the era known as the Touched. You are one of them and you are the Commander.
In Prime World: Defenders you will lead your team into various locations from ancient temples to mysterious caves to Prime-rich mines. As you strive to gather resources, the enemy hordes are bent on stealing them. Every mission revolves a tough battle. But you can rely on your towers & magic cards and skillful play to fend off the rampant enemies.
In-game battle is fought in the established style. You place different towers in the pre-set empty cells to guard the invading enemies and kill them before they reach the resource-generating altar or/and in some occasions carry the stolen Prime away. You need Prime to build and upgrade towers and you can gain the resource by killing enemies.
Battle is based on waves. You can see the type of upcoming enemies of each wave before and during the battle. According to that, you deploy the type of towers to beat them down. From scarecrows to flying harpies to giant Biters, monster species are rich; so are their attack behaviors. Some run fast but are weak in health while some wager slowly but are tenacious; some fly while others are invisible except when entering the attack range of detector-type towers or magic light.
You can unlock and gather a variety of towers and magic cards as you progress in Prime World: Defenders. The poison tower shoot poison darts draining health of enemies slowly for a short period, the slingshot shoot down flying enemies with throwing projectiles, and the Detector is a guard tower that is able to detect, reveal and attack invisible land monsters. And there are also the long-ranged Siege tower with a slow rate of fire, the slowing tower that drag down enemies with sticky mixture and the Energy tower that can take on large hordes of enemies within range all at once.
As to the magic spells, you can unleash the special magic power dealing damage directly on enemies of your choice. Blow off an area of monsters with bombs, rain down icy storm on them to slow them down, or poison the tough attackers to drain their health. Every magic card has a cool-down time. So although spells are helpful, you should use them in good timings.
In addition, you will also get barrier type cards that are useful in certain levels. When you battle in places with multiple paths, you can place boulders and other barriers to block the way and force enemies to go around. Moreover, you can take advantage of the Prime Anomalies scattered around on the terrain. By placing towers to cells with anomalies, you boost those towers varyingly in fire rate, attack range, shield, strength, etc..
One mainstay in collectible card games is the card enhancement, which is integral in Prime World: Defenders, too. You have two ways to improve a card. Fuse the unneeded cards to level up your favorite cards or combine two identical cards to create a better one of this type. During crafting, you can also add special artifacts that allow you to more efficiently complete the enhancement.
Prime World: Defenders is available on multi-platforms. It was firstly launched on iOS (priced $4.99) and then has come to Android (free) and the web browser via Facebook (free). Conventional and solid, it offers a familiar and fun gaming experience for TD fans.
