Rex Rocket by Castle Pixel is an exciting retro platformer that is making its way to iPad. Set in a sci-fi backdrop, the game casts you into the role of the titular captain and tasks you with the usual save-the-day mission on a star ship.
The story premise of Rex Rocket is a routine cruise that sees you transporting bio-engineered Terra-Oozlings to an uncultivated planet in the far reaches of the universe. But the bio-creatures, supposedly in cryo-sleep, break free and break into the ship’s main computer rendering it a total mess and chaos. It’s your task to keep them in bay and everything in order again.
Inspired by classic NES platformers like Metroid and Mega Man, the game features the typical platforming action and a beautiful pixel art style. In the game, you will fight the greenish Terra-Oozling creatures and the crazed ship bots & mechs while avoiding the hazards like spikes and bullets inside the ship. There are different weapons to use and diverse compartments to battle through.
Successfully kickstartered, Rex Rocket landed on Steam a couple of months ago and is underway towards iPad with a scheduled release very soon. If it piques your interests, you can head to the official game site for more information or play the PC version.
