Square Enix, a leading developer and publisher known for its Final Fantasy game series, has released a new tactical RPG titled Heavenstrike Rivals on Android. And it seems to be region-locked so far and is available to download only in the US.
Heavenstrike Rivals is a strategy RPG set in the Kingdom of Lunnain torn apart by the dark forces known as the Fallen. In the game you will recruit a wide range of units, build a strong team and guide your fighters to victory in the fast-paced combat. More than 230 different units are available. The unit types are rather generic, though, including attacker, defender, healer, mage and so on. Based on their attack styles, different units can be placed to specific instances in the battle formation and work with teammates to defeat opponents.
Battle is turn-based and fought on a grid-based three-lane board. In addition to the strength of all units, the special tiles that boost either attack or defense can be used to your advantage. Heavenstrike Rivals prepares both single-player story mode and multiplayer arena to cater to different needs.
Heavenstrike Rivals features great graphics and animation. Its soundtrack is great as well, created by Ryo Yamazaki who composed the music and sounds for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.
Heavenstrike Rivals is free-to-play and available to download on the Google Play. [Free]
