What Supercell games do you play, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach or Hay Day? If you are one of the Finnish developer’s fans, you’d be glad to know that its fourth game, CSpooky Pop, is making its way to the App Store. In fact, it was quietly soft-launched in Canada this Tuesday.
Spooky Pop is an action-packed match-3 puzzle game. That may sound a disappoint for many players. But Supercell managed to put some fresh ideas into the established formula.
The basic mechanics are unchanged. You match as many tiles as possible that will empower your unlikely heroes to attack. Unlike the gem-matching combat, though, Spooky Pop features a five-lane, grid-based battlefield where a variety of cute-looking ghosts will come in lines and approach step by step every turn. That strikes me to be an implant of the Plants vs. Zombies elements. Besides charging heroes with attack power, you can also place items like walls and exploding barrels to assist the defense.
Spooky Pop is free to download with optional in-app purchases for powerful boosts. And its integration of Leaderboards offers convenient comparison between your progress and achievements and those of other players.
Spooky Pop sneaked its way into soft launch. It is hard to predicate how long it will step out that phase. It looks promising. If you find it interesting and happen to have a Canadian iTune account, you can check it out now. [Canadian App Store Link]
