Edinburgh-based Lucky Frame will be releasing its strategic puzzle-y roguelike titled The Nightmare Cooperative on iPhone and iPad this Thursday.
The Nightmare Cooperative is a challenging adventure game that tasks players with the mission of finding and gathering gold to help themselves and their villages through hard times. But it is a dangerous journey, despite the beautiful locations. From the sandy Egyptian theme to the watery blue lands to the dark dungeon-like places, players will enter a variety of maps as they progress into the adventure.
Every journey will be different due to the randomly generated levels. And it will be deviously difficult because of the perma-death, one control system and the ever challenging levels.
In The Nightmare Cooperative players will control a group of unlikely heroes to move in the tile-based map, attacking enemies, opening treasure chests and dodging monsters. Instead of controlling them separately, players will move the whole group with a single set of controls. Swiping up will guide all heroes on the board one step northward, for instance.
Heroes differ from one another in attack range and battle style based on their own classes to be archer, mage and warrior and so on. But all are controlled to move simultaneously. That increases the strategic difficulty greatly and requires thoughtful plans of the overall situation. It’s about calculation, sacrifice and tactics.
And the game becomes tougher as players advance. Higher risk, more rewards. As players open treasure chests for extra gold, they also need to deal with more monsters from them as well. Water snails, scorpion, snakes and more monsters will show up on different maps awaiting challengers. And meeting death, players will have to start over.
The Nightmare Cooperative has been released on PC on July 16, 2014 and is coming to iPhone and iPad this Thursday, on August 28. It will be priced $3.99 when it’s launched on the App Store. And it is coming to Android later. [Official Site]
