Toy Defense, a beautiful tower defense IP, has gotten the 4th entry – Toy Defense 4: Sci-Fi – that takes the galactic space as its playground. From Mars to alien jungles to the outer space, you will defend your base and the universe from invading robot aliens in 72 customized missions.
In a battle you deploy available artillery and soldiers in the pre-set strategic posts beside the zigzagging paths that lead to your base. Every tower costs an amount of coins to be placed in the battlefield, upgraded or fixed. So it’s part of the strategy to spend the limited coins, collectible by killing foes in the mid-battle, wisely. And the rest consists in the tactical maneuvering of your space forces based on enemy types.
There are 8 types of foes including both troopers and vehicle, on the ground and in the air, bent on breaking into your headquarters. Each enemy unit behaves differently in their walking speed and battle style. To tackle them down, you have all you need but need to use them for edges. When large groups of enemy infantry attack, you slow the down with the electrified barrier created by Engineer and quickly finish the concentrations with the Plasma Flamethrower; and when the heavily armored vehicles come, the Engineer won’t be a good choice since their barrier can be easily destroyed by tanks but the Plasma Gun can do the work against those war machines.
During battle you can also repair damaged towers or upgrade those that score enough kills. To speak of the upgrading, it won’t be just contemporary. You can actually withdraw your most upgraded towers when a battle ends and deploy them in the next. You have two free slots to store the upgraded initially but can unlock more with stars earned in battles. Being an important currency, stars is crucial in your progress, or specifically in the acquirement of upgrades and some table-turning bonuses in battle.
Simply put, Toy Defense 4: Sci-Fi is fun and polished. While it’s conventionally modeled, it does a great job with solid battles and beautiful maps. And you can try the free version first before you are ready to buy. [Download]
