Toy Rush is a card-based tactical battle game featured with a cartoony toy world and strategic tower offense battles. It is a blend of tower defense with CCG mechanics wrapped into a fast, free and fun experience.
Toy Rush has two major pillars, Battle and Build, constructed on the foundation of the card system. You can find a rich variety of cards in the game, which are categorized into 7 classes. Of all, Tech/Beast/Plush toys are the fighters you can send down to the lanes for attack, while the Action Card is a perk-style type that include multiple bonus-giving cards you can use during an attack to give certain edges to your fighting toys for a contemporary period.
Battle in Toy Rush is modeled the traditional tower defense. To steal resources from an opponent’s base, you dispatch fighting toys to break through your target’s defensive network. You need to strategically use the different fighters and perks in your hand to make sure your sent troops can survive the barrage and make it to the resource zone. And a good knowledge of your toys and their strength and weakness against certain towers and traps is a necessary premise for victory.
You can build up a deck with many cards and easily check each card’s abilities before using them in the battlefield. The tech toy Katt walks in high speed and deals self-destruction damage; savage toad destroys towers and buildings from afar; and the bowlerpuff can take a lot of damage but slows when first hit, for instance. And the riding bear makes an excellent pioneer for most of the time. With its bulky body and powerful strike, it can take a lot of damage while effectively wrecking havocs on all types of towers to pave the way for other relatively weak toys. And you can sustain the bear’s destruction longer by sending toys with healing powers like Psycloma closely behind it. Different from other one-time-use cards, the riding bear is permanent. But you have to wait it to recover after an attack.
With a bundle of Action cards at disposal, you can facilitate your toy fighters to face different challenges. When your fighters are baffled by one particular well-defended lane, you can guide them through easily with the Clean Path card that removes one path defense during an attack. And when hazards like Jacks and Bubble Gum slow your troops down in a hot zone, you can either speed them up with Overdrive for a way out or let them stay and increase all toys’ damage with Mr. Boost to paralyze enemy’s defense. And there are healing Soothie, Big Chill and more action cards collectible in the game.
Cards are level-locked, so you can only place a card in your deck after you reach the specific level. You need to purchase card packs in the shop. Toys & action cards cost Tickets, a resource you harvest in your base and loot from others’. Since used cards (except the riding bear) are not returned to you, you have to buy packs every time before a battle.
Besides the four aforementioned types, there are another three categories of cards in Toy Rush: Building, Defense and Bonus. These three types of cards are purchased in the shop as well but at higher costs. From building upgrades & towers to themes & resources supplies, you need these cards to build, fortify, expand and decorate your own base. And you need to purchase corresponding packs with Caps, more like premium currency but obtainable in a hard way in the game.
Both single-player and multiplayer battle are available in Toy Rush. With its fast-paced games, colorful toy world and rich variety of cards, it is a love letter to casual players who are in to tower defense and card games.
